In his lifetime, WITTGENSTEIN published only one book: the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, which explores the relationship between language, the mind, and reality, and "the conditions for a logically perfect language." The book builds on and competes with Bertrand Russell's earlier work, and is as grounded in logic and mathematics as in ethics. Through the end of his life, though, he worked on a follow-up and correction to the Tractatus: Philosophical Investigations, which was mostly finished at the time of his death and published shortly thereafter. Broader in scope but still deeply concerned with language and the mind, Investigations takes the reader through thought experiments and language games in order to explore -- rather than simply state -- its points.
