Marie Curies shared the Nobel Prize in 1903 with Henri Becquerel and her husband, Pierre Curie for the discovery of radioactivity. It was the first time a woman had been awarded the prize but she was not allowed to give the Nobel lecture. Her husband spoke about her research in measuring the strength of radioactivity in uranium ore, which was much stronger than could be accounted for by the amount of uranium in the ore.
