Extremely Talented
Posted December 25th, 2008 by adminSirena Huang is now 12 years old; she probably loves what all 12 year old girls love: talking with her friends, school, books…but she is also a world-renowned concert violinist. Sirena began violin lessons at the age of 4 and made her professional debut with the Taiwan Symphony Orchestra at the ripe old age of 9! She is the recipient of numerous prizes, won in international competitions and has an amazing musical imagination. Being that she is only 12 years old, there is not much more information on her…but her mastery of the violin begins to write a biography that you already are looking forward to reading…

Happy learning!
Wow! I wonder what it would be like to be that talented. You are right that I am certainly interested in reading more about her. I always have concerns when I see kids like this. I wonder how they came to their talent. I know there are many just naturally talented kids who love what they are doing and can’t get enough, but there are also those that have talent because of parents who push too hard. I would like to learn more about her and her day-to-day life.

That’s an amazing accomplishment. Hopefully her parents have made a point of giving her a balanced upbringing as well. I’d expect that some of her musical colleagues have had similar childhoods and may be of help in that area.
I’d love to hear her play, but for some reason I’m not able to play the video.

I’ve always wanted to accomplish something like what this young woman has accomplished. I also think that you need to be born with the kind of talent that she has. As she gets older her talent can only get better. It would be great to be able to sit down and talk to her for a while but since I doubt if I could ever do that, reading about her is the next best thing.

When ever I hear about people like this I remember what Malcolm Gladwell wrote in ‘Outliers’, essentially that, alongside some natural aptitude, it requires about 10,000 hours to really competently do something like play an instrument. I’d love to play the violin, but, going by the number it doesn’t sound like I’d be an even remotely tolerable listen until I was nearly dead :).
